BACKGROUND: Airway mucus hypersecretion is a key pathophysiologic feature in a
number of lung diseases. Cigarette smoke/nicotine and allergens are strong stimulators of
airway mucus; however, the mechanism of mucus modulation is unclear. OBJECTIVES: We
